Closing Bell: Nifty Struggles at 24,250 as India VIX Surges 4%; Bank Nifty Jumps 266 Points
The Nifty 50 closed at 24,252, holding just above the crucial 24,250 resistance level after struggling to break it throughout the trading session. The index made multiple attempts to move decisively above 24,250, but failed to sustain the breakout and eventually settled near a neutral level.
Meanwhile, India VIX surged 4%, signalling rising market fear and the possibility of continued volatility. With VIX moving higher, traders may need to remain cautious as uncertainty builds in the near term.
The Nifty Auto Index was among the key drags on the broader index today. Maruti Suzuki emerged as one of the top Nifty losers, declining 1.77%, adding pressure to the market.
Another major concern was the sharp rise in crude oil prices, which jumped around 5%. A sustained increase in crude prices could add pressure through inflation, currency movements and corporate costs.
In contrast, Bank Nifty was the standout performer, closing 266 points higher. The banking index displayed stronger upside momentum and remained resilient despite broader market uncertainty. In the short term, Bank Nifty could continue to attract attention if this positive momentum sustains.
Nifty Outlook
The 24,250 level remains a critical hurdle. A decisive breakout and sustained close above this zone could strengthen the bullish momentum. However, repeated rejection near 24,250, combined with rising India VIX and higher crude oil prices, suggests traders should watch for increased volatility.
