Nifty & Bank Nifty Turn Negative in CAS: First Red Closing Auction Candle After 10 Green Sessions
After 10 consecutive green Closing Auction Session (CAS) candles, the Indian market finally witnessed a negative CAS candle, signalling a notable change in the closing-session trend.
Nifty 50: VIX Spike, Afternoon Recovery and Negative CAS
The Nifty 50 closed at 24,288, down 78 points (-0.32%). During the opening session, India VIX surged around 3%, reflecting increased market fear and volatility.
However, the afternoon session saw a strong recovery as Nifty erased much of the early decline and moved back toward neutral levels. Despite this recovery, the Closing Auction Session printed a red candle of 54 points, marking the first negative CAS candle after 10 consecutive green sessions.
Bank Nifty: PSU Bank Pressure Offset by HDFC Bank
Bank Nifty closed at 57,498, gaining just 7 points (+0.01%), effectively ending the session flat.
From the opening session, PSU banking stocks came under selling pressure, dragging Bank Nifty lower. At the same time, HDFC Bank showed relative strength and helped lift the index back toward neutral territory.
Despite this recovery, the CAS produced another significant negative move, with Bank Nifty printing a red CAS candle of 214 points at the close.
Key Market Pattern
What Does the First Red CAS Candle Mean?
The first negative CAS candle after 10 consecutive green sessions is an important development to watch. The pattern suggests that although afternoon buying helped Nifty and Bank Nifty recover from their intraday weakness, selling pressure remained visible during the final auction period.
The combination of an early India VIX spike, PSU Bank weakness, afternoon recovery and a negative CAS candle could become an important signal for traders monitoring the market's post-CAS behaviour.
