Nifty CAS System: 9 Consecutive Green Candles | What’s Happening in the Last 15 Minutes?
The implementation of the Closing Auction Session (CAS) by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) on 3 August 2026 has introduced a new mechanism for determining the official closing price. Under the CAS system, the final 15 minutes of the trading session are used for order matching and trade confirmation before the market officially closes.
Since its implementation, the Nifty 50 has recorded a green candle during the final CAS period in all nine trading sessions from 3 August to 13 August 2026. The size of the final 15-minute move has varied significantly, ranging from just a few points to more than 200 points.
Nifty CAS Green Candle Data
This represents nine consecutive trading sessions in which the Nifty's CAS candle closed in green.
The pattern raises an important market-structure question: Is this repeated green closing-auction behaviour simply a result of genuine demand and price discovery, or could unusual order-flow activity during the CAS be contributing to the recurring final-minute price movement?
It is important to distinguish between an unusual market pattern and proven manipulation. A sequence of nine green CAS candles alone does not establish market manipulation.
What Happens After the CAS Move?
One notable observation is that some of the large closing-auction gains appear to create a significant gap or elevated opening level for the following session. During the next trading session, the Nifty can subsequently experience selling pressure and move back toward flatter levels.
This creates a recurring pattern worth monitoring:
CAS Green Candle → Higher Closing Price → Next-Session Selling/Giveback → Market Moves Back Toward Normal Levels
If this behaviour continues, traders and market participants may increasingly question whether the CAS is producing a meaningful change in short-term price discovery or merely shifting a portion of the day's volatility into the final 15-minute auction period.
Conclusion
The first nine trading sessions following the implementation of the Closing Auction Session (CAS) show a striking pattern: Nifty closed with a green CAS candle on every session from 3 August through 13 August 2026.
The largest move was +200 points on 3 August, followed by +152 points on 4 August, while subsequent sessions recorded smaller but consistently positive CAS moves.
At this stage, the data should be treated as an observation requiring further investigation rather than evidence of manipulation. Continued monitoring of the CAS period, order flow, volumes, derivatives data and next-day price behaviour will be important to understand whether this pattern is temporary or represents a structural characteristic of the new closing mechanism.
