Crude Oil Crisis: Trump will “SOON” Declare Strait of Hormuz - U.S. Territory

U.S. President Donald Trump has reportedly indicated that the United States could “soon” declare the Strait of Hormuz as U.S. territory, adding a new geopolitical dimension to the ongoing tensions between Washington and Iran.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most strategically important energy corridors, with a significant share of global oil supplies passing through the waterway. Any escalation involving the Strait could therefore have major consequences for crude oil prices, global inflation, energy markets and stock markets.

The latest development comes after comments by U.S. Vice President JD Vance and amid heightened tensions surrounding the U.S.-Iran conflict. The situation has also raised questions about the broader strategic objectives behind the confrontation with Iran, particularly given the importance of the region to global crude oil supplies.

There has been speculation that the conflict could increasingly become centered on U.S. control of strategic energy routes and crude oil security, rather than remaining solely focused on Iran’s nuclear program. However, these interpretations remain political and geopolitical speculation and should not be treated as established fact without supporting evidence.

Israel has also played a major role in the escalation involving Iran. However, the absence or reduction of public statements from Israeli officials on specific nuclear-weapon claims should not by itself be interpreted as evidence that Israel was deliberately used as a tool to initiate a broader U.S.-Iran war.

The biggest concern for global markets is now the Strait of Hormuz and crude oil supply risk. If tensions escalate or shipping through the Strait is disrupted, Brent crude and other oil benchmarks could experience significant volatility. Higher crude prices could increase inflationary pressure and negatively affect oil-importing economies, including India.
