Nifty 50 & Bank Nifty Outlook for August 25: Resistance Holds as VIX Rises Ahead of August Expiry
Nifty 50 Outlook
The Nifty 50 closed at 24,219, down 33 points (-0.14%), as the index continued to face selling pressure near the 24,250 resistance zone.
On Thursday, Nifty rallied 153 points and closed around 24,232, while India VIX declined nearly 4% during the session. However, over the following two trading sessions, India VIX recovered almost 7%, while Nifty remained close to Thursday’s closing level. This divergence indicates rising caution and weakening momentum at higher levels.
The repeated rejection around 24,250 makes this level an important resistance zone. With the August monthly expiry on August 25 approaching, volatility could increase and Nifty may see downside movement if resistance continues to hold.
Traders should remain cautious at higher levels, particularly around the CAS (Closing Auction Session) timing, as sharp late-session moves can influence the official closing price.
Nifty 50 Support & Resistance
A decisive move above resistance could change the short-term setup, but repeated rejection at higher levels keeps the bearish bias intact.
Bank Nifty Outlook
Bank Nifty closed at 57,526, down 236 points (-0.41%), as selling pressure spread across both PSU and private banking stocks.
Public sector banks had been providing relative strength and supporting the banking index while several private banking stocks underperformed. However, PSU banks also moved into correction mode, resulting in renewed weakness in Bank Nifty.
With both PSU and private banking stocks showing signs of price correction, the banking index could remain volatile ahead of the August monthly expiry.
Traders should stay cautious at higher levels and closely monitor the CAS timing, particularly if selling pressure intensifies toward the close.
Bank Nifty Support & Resistance
Key Takeaway
Nifty 50 continues to struggle near 24,250, while rising India VIX and weakness in Bank Nifty suggest increasing volatility ahead of the August monthly expiry. Unless the major resistance zones are decisively breached, the market remains vulnerable to further downside.
Stay cautious at higher levels and monitor CAS period price action closely.
