Nifty & Bank Nifty Outlook for August 26: Crude Oil Crash Triggers Rally, But 24,500 Remains Key
The Indian stock market staged a sharp recovery on Tuesday as falling crude oil prices triggered fresh buying interest in the afternoon session. Nifty 50 closed at 24,335, up 116 points (+0.48%), while Bank Nifty remained under pressure despite the broader market recovery.
Nifty 50 Outlook: 24,500 Is the Make-or-Break Zone
Nifty started the session under pressure. India VIX crashed around 3%, but the index initially moved lower and broke Monday’s low, keeping the early-session sentiment cautious.
The major turnaround came after Brent crude oil slipped around 2.5%-3% into negative territory. The sharp decline in crude prices acted as a trigger for buying, helping Nifty recover strongly from the day’s lower levels and move nearly 1% higher during the afternoon session.
Nifty eventually closed at 24,335, maintaining bullish momentum into the close.
However, the recovery does not completely eliminate the underlying weakness. The 24,500 level remains the key make-or-break resistance for the coming sessions. A decisive breakout and sustained close above 24,500 could strengthen the recovery, while another rejection may bring selling pressure back into the market.

Bank Nifty Outlook: Private Banks Continue to Weigh on the Index
Bank Nifty continues to show relative weakness compared with Nifty.
The index closed lower, with Bank Nifty falling around 214 points during the CAS closing period, highlighting continued selling pressure in the banking space.
Private-sector banks remain the major concern. Several private banking stocks have been making fresh lows repeatedly, with HDFC Bank continuing to face significant selling pressure. This persistent weakness is limiting the upside potential of Bank Nifty.
At the same time, PSU banks are attempting to support the index and partially offset the weakness coming from private-sector banks. The ongoing divergence between PSU banks and private banks will remain an important factor to watch in the next trading sessions.
Bank Nifty Support & Resistance
What to Watch on August 26
The key market question is whether Nifty can sustain its recovery above 24,300 and challenge the crucial 24,500 resistance.
Three factors will be especially important:
Nifty 24,500 breakout or rejection
Crude oil price movement after the sharp decline
Private-bank weakness versus PSU-bank support
Nifty recovered sharply as crude oil prices slipped nearly 3%, but 24,500 remains the decisive hurdle. Bank Nifty continues to underperform as private-sector banks remain weak. For August 26, the broader setup remains bearish with a sell-on-rally bias unless Nifty decisively breaks and sustains above 24,500.
